📟 Launch ILB 📟
At 10:23 Saturday morning (17th October), Jersey Coastguard requested our inshore lifeboat Albert Pinel to launch to assist a 10.5 metre sailing vessel located 7 cables south of Elizabeth Breakwater which had suffered engine failure, with smoke coming from the engine room.
Launching on service in minutes, (as the crew were already in the vicinity of the harbour), they were quick to make it to the JLA station to change into dry suits and get back down the pontoon to launch the Albert Pinel. With a crew of 4 volunteers aboard, Albert Pinel made its way to the last reported location where contact with the casualty vessel was made, before confirming with the people aboard that no further smoke had developed and that they were not in immediate danger.
After the Albert Pinel came alongside the vessel and transferred a crew member aboard, it was quickly determined that the vessel was safe and a tow into St Helier harbour was established.
Once the crew set the tow, in increasing sea conditions and with the ebb tide gaining momentum, the best course of action was to make way back to St Helier.
The vessel was transferred to an alongside tow, at the northern end of the small roads, before being brought through the pier heads shortly before 11:28 where it was placed safely alongside Albert Pier pontoon.
The JLA would like to thank Jersey Coastguard and St Helier VTS for communicating the tasking through a VHF message whilst a yacht race was also in progress within our route back to St Helier.
