Sea Safety: Lifejackets
How to use them
Lifejackets
A lifejacket is a buoyancy device designed to keep a person afloat and their head above water in the event of an emergency
How they work
A lifejacket with manual inflation requires the wearer to pull a cord to activate the CO2 canister, while an automatic lifejacket inflates automatically when submerged in water through a water-activated mechanism.
Fitment
To fit your lifejacket, fasten all straps securely, ensuring a snug fit around your chest at that the lifejacket does not rise up over your head when activated.
Will it work?
The wearer should have their lifejacket inspected and serviced regularly according to manufacturer guidelines.
When to wear them
You should wear your lifejacket whenever you’re on or near the water, especially in rough conditions or when there’s a risk of falling overboard.
