New FLIR Camera

The Jersey Lifeboat Association are extremely grateful to have received a generous donation from Building Renovations Ltd for a new upgraded thermal imaging camera for JLA’s ILB (inshore lifeboat) ‘Albert Pinel’. The new camera marks a significant increase to the vessel’s capabilities whilst carrying out search & rescue missions around Jersey’s coastline. This capability is unique to the Jersey Lifeboat Association’s vessels and adds an extra layer to Jersey’s search & rescue facilities and assets. The previous camera will now be repurposed aboard the charity’s all weather vessel ’Sir Max’.

The new camera was deployed on a night time coastal search, on the north coast, less than 48hrs after its install & commissioning!

“The JLA are humbled by this generous donation made by Building Renovations Ltd. Whilst our vessel has had a thermal imaging capability since its arrival to the island; This new camera marks a significant improvement over the previous installation including a gyro stabilisation system & larger sensors allowing for clearer and more stable images during searches. The new camera was used less than 48hrs after it’s commissioning as our ILB was diverted from a routine training exercise to a search on the north coast returning just after 2am”

“The camera allows our crews to quickly identify & automatically track thermal targets during open water & coastal searches. This donation further supports the JLA’s pledge to providing the best possible equipment for our vessels, crew & fellow islanders through consistent training & modernisations.”
