Behind every callout, every training session, and every rescue is a team of dedicated volunteers who give up their time to keep our island’s waters safe.
Over the coming months, we’ll be introducing you to the people behind the pagers – the crew members who drop everything, day or night, to answer it.
From their day jobs to their passions outside of the JLA, get to know the faces behind our lifeboats.
To kick things off, meet Ian Esnouf, one of our Senior Inshore Lifeboat Helms.

Name: Ian Esnouf
Position on Crew: Senior Inshore Lifeboat Helm
Years life-boating: Close to two decades, 8 of which have been with the JLA
When Ian’s not at the helm of Albert Pinel, he’s working at Jersey Electricity, where he’s spent 38 years as a time-served electrician designing heating and water systems – from air-to-water heat pumps and smart panel heating to EV chargers and solar PV, helping the island work towards its 2050 zero carbon policy.
In his free time he enjoys fishing, whether from the shore or out on his own boat.
