Tasking report: 28th October 2026

📟 INSHORE LIFEBOAT | SERVICE REPORT 📟

At 09:28 on Wednesday morning, Jersey Coastguard requested the launch of our Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) – Albert Pinel – following reports from a trawler of a small upturned vessel approximately 3 nautical miles east of Gorey.

Launching shortly afterwards with a volunteer crew of four on board, Albert Pinel made best speed around Jersey’s south-east coast towards the last reported position.

Whilst en route, further information and updated sightings were received from local fishing vessels in the area. This enabled Jersey Coastguard to prepare and relay search instructions for our crew to follow on arrival.

Just before commencing the search, the crew spotted the upturned hull and immediately began assessing the situation.

Key observations, including the stowage position of the outboard motor, the presence of broken mooring gear and identifying marks on the vessel, were relayed to Jersey Coastguard.

With no evidence of anyone in the water, and given the potential hazard the upturned vessel posed to other marine traffic, a decision was made to attempt to right the vessel and tow it safely back to Gorey.

With the crew managing to right the vessel safely and establishing a tow back to Gorey, the crew were met by the Ports of Jersey Marine Services team, who recovered the vessel ashore.

Albert Pinel was subsequently stood down and returned to St Helier. The boat and equipment were then washed down, checked and made ready for the next tasking.

A great effort from our volunteer crew, supported by the valuable information provided by local fishing vessels in the area and the co-ordination of Jersey Coastguard.
