At 07:42 this morning, the JLA was requested to launch our ILB, Albert Pinel, following a report of an inverted liferaft spotted between Jersey and Chausey.

Albert Pinel launched shortly afterwards and made best speed towards the liferaft’s last known position. On arrival, the liferaft had drifted from the reported location with the tide.

Jersey Coastguard provided updated information using their drift modelling and, following a short search, the liferaft was located.

A search of the surrounding area was then carried out for any debris or casualties, with nothing found. It is believed the liferaft may have fallen from a passing vessel and subsequently deployed.

The JLA would also like to thank motorists during this morning’s rush hour who made space for responding crew, helping them reach the station and enabling a quicker launch.

Jersey lifeboat crews use blue lights on their personal vehicles when attending time critical deployments. The consideration shown by other road users in allowing crews to make progress safely is greatly appreciated.
