Jersey Air Display 2026
📟 ILB DIVERTED TO SINKING VESSEL📟
At 15:12 on Thursday 10th September, whilst providing annual on-water safety cover for the Jersey International Air Display, the JLA Inshore Lifeboat, Albert Pinel, received instructions from Jersey Coastguard to standby for an immediate tasking.
After receiving further information Jersey Coastguard tasked the ILB to locate and assist a motor vessel, anchored within St Aubins bay, that was rapidly taking on water. After scanning the area the crew identified a vessel with its occupants waving for assistance.
Travelling the short distance across the bay, the ILB arrived on scene and conducted an immediate survey of the vessel which had 4 occupants aboard and significant volumes of water within its engine bay.
The decision was made to transfer non essential occupants aboard the casualty vessel onto the ILB whilst a crew member and salvage pump were transferred aboard the casualty vessel.
Working alongside the vessels French owners, who happened to be a professional mariner and marine technician, the salvage pump was used to empty the vessels engine bay and identify the area of water ingress.
With the salvage pump maintaining safe water levels and the area of ingress identified and stemmed, the vessel was taken under tow back to St Helier Harbour where it was brought safely alongside the pontoon at 15:56.
Our crew offered further assistance to the vessel owners before being stood down by Jersey Coastguard and returning to air display safety duties within St Aubins bay.
