Saturday evening saw the crew of JLA’s Inshore Lifeboat, Albert Pinel, tasked to assist a 20ft motor vessel that had lost its rudder and was unable to make headway against the tide.
Albert Pinel launched promptly and rendezvoused with the casualty vessel to the south east of Demi de Pas Lighthouse.
Two crew members were transferred onto the vessel to assist with securing the rudder, managing water ingress and preparing the vessel for tow. The casualty vessel was then safely towed back to St Helier.
Albert Pinel and the casualty vessel were safely alongside at approximately 1800.
JLA would like to praise the skipper for carrying the correct safety equipment, wearing lifejackets and making effective use of VHF communications.
If you find yourself in difficulty at sea, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
