SHOUT: 8th Sept 2025

999 Day (9th Sept) is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate all those who serve in our emergency services. Whether full-time or volunteer, these dedicated individuals put themselves in harm’s way to protect others, often at great personal risk, and ensure help is available whenever and wherever it is needed.

As a charity lifeboat service, the Jersey Lifeboat Association is proud to stand alongside our colleagues across the emergency services. Our volunteers give their time, skills, and commitment to ensure that the call for help is always answered.

Last night our crew were tasked to assist a motor vessel that had suffered engine failure while heading to Jersey. The vessel had originally lost power north of the Minquiers but, with the large tide, had drifted more than five miles from its reported position.

Our All-Weather Lifeboat Sir Max Aitken III located the vessel and established a tow back to St Helier, arriving safely alongside at approximately 22:15.

We would like to thank Steve Huelin for opening the fuel pontoon late in the evening, allowing us to refuel and return to berth ready for service.

On 999 Day and every day, the JLA remains proud to be part of the emergency services family – ready to respond 24/7. In a maritime emergency, always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Please donate today

Your lives, your crew, your boats.
