Jersey Lifeboat Association were tasked at 19:58 to assist a small motor vessel which had suffered a complete electrical failure, resulting in engine failure, whilst out fishing.
Crew were already at the station having just completed an evening training session, allowing Albert Pinel to launch within moments from her berth.
At the time of the incident, fog had reduced visibility to approximately 50 metres in places, with two persons on board the casualty vessel.
Jersey Fire and Rescue, who were also on exercise, had placed the vessel under tow to prevent it drifting with the outgoing tide. On arrival, Albert Pinel took over the tow and returned the vessel safely to Albert Pier.
Whilst not a legal requirement in some cases, we strongly recommend that all vessels carry and wear suitable lifejackets for everyone on board, have appropriate means of distress signalling, and ensure they are fully aware of the conditions they are operating in. If you find yourself in difficulty without VHF, call 999 and ask for Jersey Coastguard.
