Boat Owners Checklist part 2

We’re all about keeping you safe on the water. With the improved weather, more and more people are wanting to get out on their boats, but you need to make sure that your vessel is in good condition before you set sail.  The guys at Islands Insurance have put together some great advice, which we’d like to share with you all.

Part 2: Your Electrical System

Before starting her up and taking her out, you need to inspect all wiring for wear and chafe, and check all of the following:

Batteries
Recharge batteries and check the battery water level

Battery Terminals
Make sure that your electrical connections are clean and lubricated for proper contact

Bonding Systems
Check that your vehicle is correctly grounded and safe to use

Gauges
Ensure that all gauges are able to move freely and show accurate readings

Shore Power
Check that the vehicle’s batteries function and charge correctly when connected to shore power

Onboard Electronics
Test any onboard electronics for faults, and remove any faulty or frayed chargers

Inspect Antennas
Check that all antennas are functioning correctly and are undamaged
